Not sure about whitewater rafting? Biking trails are flourishing in the region. From wide, paved rail trails to gnarly single tracks that wind through the forest, biking in the Gorge is unforgettable. Nearby shops will get you geared up if you need anything. The Endless Wall Trail is one of many awesome trails in the area. Through a hardwood forest and meeting up with a cliff band on the western rim of the gorge. Hikers enjoy the long-range views of the gorge on this trail. There are dozens of outdoor adventure options in the area. Ask our Waynestock expert, Jenna at check in for details.
The New River Gorge started attracting rock climbers in the 80s, and hasn’t let up since. There are more than 1,500 routes (and counting, as climbers continue to explore) on the gorge’s tall cliffs, not to mention the ever-expanding bouldering scene. The area is rapidly becoming one of the eastern seaboard’s best rock-climbing destinations. More info...
Over the years we have been fortunate enough to get the inside scoop from the locals on the "off the beaten path" stuff. One of the best examples of that is the many waterfalls that exist all through the gorge. Some of them have big pools of water you can jump into, or just lounge in. Summersville Lake Marina has a full-service marina with rental options ranging from paddle boards and kayaks to pontoon boats. Summersville Lake is the cleanest, clearest freshwater lake east of the Mississippi River. With high cliffs you can boat to and jump off, this is one of the most amazing attractions in the area. A true hidden gem, Kanawha Falls is just one option for paddle boarding in the area. Don't let the moving water of the river deter you, this spot is calm and great for beginners. There is a large flat water pool to help get you comfortable and a nice sandy beach you can hop off on. Depending on water levels there are different activities such as rock slides, jump rocks, and swimming under waterfalls. More info...

See the White Water from 851 Feet up! Not scared of heights, you say? This one will challenge you. If you’ve ever driven across the New River Gorge Bridge and thought, I wish I had a better view from up here, but you can't stop the car to get it. Well, this is your chance to see it very clearly.

This scenic lift takes you from the top of the New River Gorge canyon to the marina at the bottom, offering an amazing view of the New River Gorge Bridge from the river below. There are many places in the New River Gorge area that offer disc golf courses wish spectacular views, and challenging holes.
One of our veteran Waynestockers is actually a pro disc golfer, and typically puts some kind of tournament together every year. There are also a number of people who bring baskets and set something up at camp, for fun.
Take a guided tour through over 100 miles of trails in the New River Gorge! From beginner to advanced level, there is plenty of adventure to be had. Travel through the gorge, mountain climbs, mud holes, creek crossings, etc. This trip is sure to get your blood pumping, while you enjoy the scenic beauty of the Gorge.

Zip through New River Gorge on a network of 9 zip lines and two suspended bridges spanning over 1 mile of cliff line. Each zip offers unique views and exciting speeds. Several of the zip lines feature dual lines so you can race a friend to the finish or cruise slowly together and enjoy the views.
For the less adventurous day trippers, we highly suggest checking out Fayetteville. This small historic town sits on the southeastern edge of the New River Gorge’s border, and has a food and beer scene that exceeds expectations. From restaurants to interesting little shops and microbreweries - Fayetteville is worth checking out. Given it's extremely close proximity to Cantrell, it's a definite must.
